Prologue

"pro-log" • noun • a separate introductory section of a literary, dramatic, or musical work.

Welcome.

I suppose there's been a number of contributing factors that have brought us here, Dear Reader. Whether you're reading this in the morning with your cup of coffee, or curled on up the couch with a cat sleeping on you, just as I am now, I'm glad you're here.

Music has been a huge part of my life as long as I can remember, and if you're on this blog, I'd assume the same stands for you too. I listen to music when I'm getting ready in the mornings, when I'm travelling to work, on my breaks, travelling back home, pottering round the house and falling asleep. I always usually have a song stuck en loop in my head at any given moment (it's currently 'misses' by Dominic Fike in case you were wondering) and I have a lot of thoughts on music too. From which of Taylor Swift's Eras is the best (evermore!) to why is Spotify trying to shove AI down our throats? (Money!)

I'm not usually a very sentimental person, aside from places and music - hence a whole blog on it! It takes me back to places, times, feelings and people even long after the memories have begun to fade.

If someone asked me to define myself, music would most likely pop up somewhere along the way. My taste in music pre-2011 left much to be desired - I was a 15 year old girl who listened to Kesha whilst sitting on my bedroom floor and voting for One Direction on Saturday evenings watching X Factor. (Funnily enough, Liam was my favourite at the time - I thought Harry was overrated. Look where we are now.)

I think we should start from there. 2011. It was such a good year for music, but that's a story for another day.

So what else is there to share? Well, my name is Bryony, which is partly the reason why I'm so keen on spellings and pronunciations... Because my name is rarely spelt or pronounced correctly! (The joys of having parents who thought to pick a "unique" name or so I'm told...) I live in Wales with my cat and I have 5,229 liked songs on Spotify and listened to 52,206 minutes of music in 2024. I suppose it hit me in October when Bon Iver released his latest EP, 'SABLE', that I didn't really have anyone to talk to about it. And I've loved Bon Iver since I was 17.

So here we are. I'll be talking to you, Dear Reader.

I hope you're sitting comfortably?

Good, now let's begin.
B.
