It's Starting to Feel Like Autumn
📖 5 min. read
Well hello there and Happy Friday!
Today I'll be talking about five songs I'm currently listening to constantly that are giving me an autumnal vibe. The leaves have started turning and it's finally cold enough to wear a jumper! After this summer, I never thought I'd see the day...
1. Tyler Nance ft The Castellows - Keeps Me Sane
The Castellows are played regularly and often in our house after we went to see them live at their first London gig. This song feels like my favourite of theirs so far. Sometimes a collaboration like this can feel as if one artist is doing the other a favour and you can sense the seam of where the two parts have been stitched together, but not in this instance. As you know, I'm an avid fan of the Castellows and I will now be checking out Tyler's discography, as a good feature should lead you to do.
2. Taylor Swift - Carolina
Moving on from a new release, we have Carolina which was released back in 2022 for the film 'Where the Crawdads Sing'. Surprisingly, I hadn't listened to this song in full... Ever. At all!
As a long-time swiftie whose favourite album is Evermore I really don't know why I haven't listened to Carolina until recently. But I am so glad I did. Carolina is on a very similar vibe to Safe & Sound which she produced for the first Hunger Games film. Likewise, this was another song I just hadn't listened to for no particular reason, but I had it becomes an earworm. Given the recent reception to The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, maybe Taylor should lean towards producing more music for use in films?
3. Wolf Alice - Lipstick on the Glass
Thankfully, this song from 2021 is one that I have been listening to for much longer than Carolina. It has a very cool, frosty tone that reminds me of the first Twilight film. It gives a very strong foundation for maladaptive daydream on long car journeys. I imagine rain pouring down on the evergreens of Washington State with cold blue colour-grading. Maybe some slow-motion shots of the Cullens throwing a baseball...
4. Rainbow Kitten Surprise - It's Called: Freefall
This song is one I heard from Tiktok, as I think most people would have. It's a surprisingly folky song as those usually aren't the sort to be trending among the youth of the day. I feel like this song would be great to hear live, alas I haven't listened to enough music by the band to warrant seeing them live. There's some homework for me!
5. Carpenters - Yesterday Once More
Finally, we have a chilled song straight from my Grandma's kitchen circa early 2000's. She is a fan of the Carpenters, Eva Cassidy, Katie Melua and that ilk. Their respective greatest hits albums would be bought from car boot stalls and played on her bright blue Argos cassette and CD player, on top of the washing machine. Decorated with doilies, of course. This song feels like home and sitting on Grandma's rocking chair while she rustled up tea or a fruit crumble. I might have to make one now...
On that note, have a lovely weekend.
Speak soon,
Bryony.
