The Castellows Just Released Two New Songs

Well, here we are again!

It's not just any old Friday, it's a Castellows release day. We're a big big fan of those in our house!

If you don't know (although you really should), the Castellows are made up of three sisters Lily, Ellie and Powell from Georgetown, Georgia. They first came to my attention in 2023 as they were posting covers on TikTok and had just started promoting their then-upcoming cover 'Hurricane'. To date, their cover now has 7.64 million streams on Spotify after almost 3 years.

The girls have put out an almost-constant stream of new music, including a covers, ballads and country bops. (Probably not the correct lingo for those more local to Georgia, but as a girl from the North West of England, "bop" is the best word I could think of.) The girls are all incredibly strong in their skills and chosen instruments. Lily is the lead singer, Ellie is guitar and backing vocals and Powell is usually Banjo and backing vocals. For me the one thing that always stands out is their harmonies. You can listen to any old "country" music online or on the radio, but these girls really make me feel something. They really know what they're doing.

As I said, today is another of their release days. Bearing in mind that we've yet to get a debut album from them, although it has now been confirmed multiple times that said album has been written, recorded and wrapped. So now it's a waiting game.

Until then, we have 'Mr Right' and 'Closer Still'.

The first is an upbeat song about an ex boyfriend of Lily's while she was 17. Having recently turned 22, she sings "I hate I had to learn from loving you", "I rode away and all you did was stare". It's easy to picture an ex standing by in your hometown while you write songs and sing with your sisters while travelling around the world. No doubt he fades from memory and is easily reduced to simply 'Mr Wrong'.

Closer Still is much slower and is another brilliant example of the girls' harmonies. There's barely any percussion or beat to the song, but having seen the Castellows live, I can vouch for them not needing either. The trio singing acapella to a show of a few hundred and some stage lights is more than enough to make your hair stand on end.

Have a listen to them both and enjoy your weekend. I'll be eagerly anticipating the debut album announcement!
