New Music Friday #3

Hello, hello!

I would like to acknowledge but also pretend that I haven't missed the last two New Music Fridays. Or even posted in March yet... So welcome to March!

Fridays are now becoming a thing for me and I'm trying to listen to new music more, especially on the day it comes out. This week there's more Bon Iver, new Haim and a gorgeous cover from The Castellows!

First up, Bon Iver released two songs - 'If Only I Could Wait' featuring Danielle Haim and 'Walk Home'. I like both of these songs and as second singles, they do the job. They're meant to give you a taster of and build an appetite for the upcoming album - which is coming out on 11th April. It does just that and I'd add these to a "Chill" playlist, but I can't see myself having these en loop anytime soon to be honest.

Next up is Haim's 'Relationships' which I have to admit I had to search out the clean version because the repetitive F word in the chorus didn't seem to add anything to the song. Aside from that, it very much sounds like a continuation from their 2021 album 'Women in Music Part III' and something I can see myself playing en loop as we get it into the warmer months. Haim definitely feels like summer music so I'm looking forward to a new album from them... I just hope we get some sunshine here in Wales to fully appreciate the LA vibes!

The Castellows released a cover of Patty Loveless' 1994 song 'You Don't Even Know Who I Am'. I had to Google the lyrics as I thought they were familiar and the themes seemed a little unusual for the girls to be writing themselves, especially since they're all between 20-22. Nevertheless, The Castellows always do covers right. They sound like they could be their own songs without doing the original dirty. Ellie, Lily and Powell's harmonies are flawless as usual and I cannot wait for a UK tour and their debut album.

I'm gradually building up my SS25 playlist now that we're seeing more daylight, so hopefully I'll be sharing that with you soon.

Have a lovely weekend!
B.
